By Faith…

How do you do things by faith? What does it mean to be a man of faith? Does that mean that you dress a certain way or say certain things? The answers for these questions can differ drastically depending on the definition you apply.

I think that the father of lies manipulates definitions to make us as miserable as he is. He likes to mingle some truth with his philosophy. He uses popularity, the honors of men, gold, silver, compulsory means, force, and manipulation to get his way. The partial truth is the trick. That is why the Holy Ghost is promised to teach us the truth of all things (Moroni 10:5). Having the Holy Ghost as your constant companion, you would be able to sniff out the lie (discernment), and crush the head of the serpent.

However, words such as faith has been so commonly distorted that we cannot really explain what faith is anymore. We tend to rely on the traditions of men to produce the most acceptable answer. For this reason we fail to develop faith as individuals and as a whole.

We have been constantly told to read the Book of Mormon. I find it interesting that all prophets, once they have partaken of the greater light, return to the people and teach the people the word of God first, and then cry for them to repent. It seems as if those men find their ultimate joy teaching the words of Christ and inviting them to come unto Jesus.

Alma 43:2

“2. Now we shall say no more concerning their preaching, except that they preached the word, and the truth, according to the spirit of prophecy and revelation; and they preached after the holy order of God by which they were called.”

I find it interesting that Alma would say no more except that they preached the word and the truth by the spirit of revelation.

Again I remind you that Joseph initially used a device to write scripture. However, eventually he didn’t need any device in order to gaze into revelations. The use of the device changed the man (Joseph) so he could be inseparably connected to heaven.

We too can experience a similar transformation as we look to the Book of Mormon as a similar kind of device, in that it will change you. It’s no wonder the prophets were so exited that they go straightway and preach repentance.

We have no power of ourselves.

More on faith to come…
