Last blog we addressed transitioning to the gifts of the spirit, by establishing a house of God. We had to progress our house by establishing a house of Prayer/Fasting/Faith/Learning/Glory/Order/ and then a house of God. Reading 3 Nephi 13, I noticed the exact same pattern. Look at it for yourself, and you will find the key topics there too. But most importantly, you will see that, in the end, capitalism is not necessary any longer, once you have a house of Order, or house of God. Capitalism will be supplemented by the gifts of the spirit.
The chapter is made up of groups of thought that connect to the establishing of a house of God (A house temple). The first topic is a warning though. We are not to do any of this for the honors of men. When we do things for the honors of men, or to be seen of men, we have planted the seeds of corruption, and our house will be doomed to fail.
After the warning, the Lord addresses the house of prayer. He teaches the Lord’s prayer (Prayer). That prayer is seeking out the house of God. If our prayers have no connection to the house of God, you gotta ask yourself if it is vain and repetitious? When we know nothing of the house of God, we pray to consume upon our lusts. However, once we seek God’s will, we align our prayers so that our will is the same as God’s will.
From prayer, the Lord moves into fasting (Fasting). Fasting seems to hint to an ordinance of washing your face and anointing your head. What that exactly means, I’m not to sure, but it sure sounds like an ordinance to me. Nonetheless, fasting is the offering up of your substances, but not letting others see your offerings. You trust that the only thing necessary is for our offerings to be accepted by God.
Next we are advised to lay up treasures in heaven (Faith). Our treasures are what we have faith in. Those who have treasures on earth, have faith in capitalism, or the things of the earth. Those with treasures in heaven, have faith in Christ. Christ is central and foundational to their entire lives.
This is a transition point of the utmost importance. Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Those with treasures on earth, their heart is buried in the earth, like the parable of the talents. The one who buried their single talent in the earth had it revoked in the end. But those whose treasures are in the heavens, will seek treasures from the God of the heavens (Christ), where moth and rust does not corrupt, nor can thieves break through and take them away. That treasure is the new and everlasting covenant, sealed upon you.
Next, depending on your treasures (Earth or Heaven), that will determine what your eye will be focused on. This is a separation of the wheat from the tares. It says that if the eye is single, then thy whole body will be filled with light. But if your eye is evil, thy whole body will be filled with darkness. This describes the house of learning and glory. The house of learning is focused on the words of Christ (house of Learning), which produces greater and greater light. Eventually, our whole body will be filled with light (house of Glory).
“10. And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.
11. And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser portion of the word until they know nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell.”
When our hearts are hard, we receive less and less of the word, until we know nothing of the mysteries of God, and are chained to hell. Then we are reduced to our ignorance, and can do nothing towards our salvation, until we repent.
Those with a house of Learning, and a house of Glory, will receive a greater portion of the word of the Lord, and will be filled with more and more light, until they know the mysteries of God, …until we know them in full. The “mysteries” are temple ordinances. When we have the same temple ordinances as is done in heaven (the Lord’s prayer: “on earth as it is in heaven”), then we can do them on earth, and re-establish our conduit to the heavens, so that the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected to the powers of heaven. This is power in the priesthood. Then will we be filled with both truth (knowledge) …and light (glory). These are the establishment of a house of Learning and a house of Glory.
Side Note: The Lord issues a warning before going into detail in the house of order, “No man can serve two masters.” Read the description the Lord uses to describe how we can interact with either master. You can either love God, or despise Him. Or you can hate Satan, or cleave to him. If you love God, then you hate Satan. However, notice something, you can never love Satan, and you can never hate God. All you can do is cleave to Satan and despise God. The early saints diverged here to pursue their success in capitalism. Each time they established a house, they got sidetracked with commercial success. Think about that before we go over the house of Order.
Finally, the transition from capitalism becomes complete when we have established a house of order. The Lord tells those who are of the house of Order, to not worry about food, clothing, or shelter anymore. Those in the house of order are free of capitalism, and must now depend wholly upon the gifts of the spirit. We will be cared for by God, as is the lilies of the field, and the fowls of the air, …who sow not, neither do they reap. That means that they don’t plant or harvest their food, clothing or shelter. The prophet Elijah was fed like the disney character “Snow White.” Birds flew to him with food for him to eat. Grocery stores, employment, taxes, capitalism, careers, etc. are all unnecessary at this point. These can gaze into the heavens and know more that any book written on the subject. These are people of great intelligence, because intelligence is defined as truth and light. Those who have established a house of order are advised to:
3 Nephi 13:31-34
“31. Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32. For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
34. Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof.”
Those in a House of Order supplement the need for capitalism, with the gifts of the spirit. Capitalism is therefore unnecessary any longer.
Conclusion: The entire plan of salvation is symbolically housed in an arm “raised to the square.” Each of the three segments connect to the three facsimiles: sacrifice, ascension, and coronation of King/Queen. As a husband and wife become one, then two arms are raised to the square. As a people of Zion are united in heart and mind, with no poor among them, they stand together, with arms to the square.
We can easily fool ourselves to trust in the arm of flesh. Or we can recognize the voice of the Lord and see the covenant being offered in the arm raised to the square (the arm of God). Those who can see the covenant must establish a house of God in order to receive it. Once you have obtained this covenant, you can leave this capitalistic world behind, and focus completely on freeing others from the slavery of their debts, and Satan’s grasps.
