This is a follow up summary on the last blog because it was so long (3500 words). My wife said that 3500 words is the same as 7.5 pages, single spaced. I am definitely not efficient in writing. However, I feel this topic is of the utmost importance for you, my family, and I to lay hold upon the gifts of heaven. My mom would say that it’s the job of the spirit to convince, not yours. And I would agree 100%. However, I know that angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, wherefore they speak the words of Christ (2 Nephi 32:3). So what I am attempting to do is speak the words of Christ, so that the Holy Ghost can teach, directly to your heart.
The subject was the order of the degrees of glory. Traditionally, the order is stated as telestial, terrestrial, and celestial. But Sidney Rigdon made a mistake in the print, and it was too late for Joseph Smith to correct it. The correct order is Terrestrial, Telestial, and Celestial.
Terrestrial refers to things of the earth. Extra-terrestrial (E.T.) refers to things not of this earth (aliens, UFO’s, and outer space). When we bury our talents in the earth, we put our interests in the terrestrial, or the things of the world. This is associated with Babylon.
Telestial refers to a bridge over a large gulf, or gap of great distance. Lehi’s dream refers to this gulf. God provided gifts of the spirit to overcome this gulf. Although the names for the gifts of the spirit in D&C 46 aren’t as descriptive, our english language has preserved some hints to these gifts. They include the prefix TELE: teleport (travel through instantaneous time), telepathy (the ability to read minds), telekinesis (the ability to move things with thought), etc. These are all included in the gifts of the spirit.
A great scriptural example of these gifts are Nephi in Helaman 10:16. Once Nephi is visited by Christ and given certain sealing powers, he begins to exhibit such gifts as teleportation, telepathy, and telekinesis. Whereas, before this, Nephi had no power to stay the hands of men from taking him prisoner, for the death of the chief judge.
Armed with the gifts of the spirit, one can bridge the gulf of misery that separates us from the throne of God. Christ leads you through the heavens in an ascension, using the gifts of the spirit, to bring you into the presence of the Father, in the celestial kingdom (while in the flesh).
That is what the atonement is offering: the gifts of the spirit, and the knowledge of charting your way through the heavens, to the throne of God. Christ is the bridge. One who has bridged that gap, has a personal relationship with Christ. They know Him. They have the ability to speak as a personal witness of Christ.
Conclusion: Read the words of Christ. They identify the tree of life. They teach all, who seek sincerely, who Christ really is, and how to access him. It has been 4 generations since the early saints have rejected the gifts of the spirit in Nauvoo. The heavens are once again accessible, whereas the angels, in the past, have been grieved.
Follow the admonition in the Lord’s prayer and make your relationships on earth the same as they are in the heavens, so that those angels observing can recognize the covenant people once again. This will result in the visitation of angels once more, and miracles will also return (Moroni 7:37). Then we too can bridge the great gulf of misery, to return to the heavens once again, …while in the flesh.
