There are only two doctrines: the doctrine of light and the doctrine of darkness. As the people of God increase the poverty gap, they are slowly led to destruction through paths of darkness. The battle that we fight is against darkness. The only real resolution has always been for man to seek and receive further light and knowledge. Light is the only source that dispels darkness.
The Gap: The gap of poverty increases, before nations are destroyed, and their only remains are a pile of bones. This was true in the times of the Jaredite people. All they left behind was a pile of bones (Mosiah 21:26). This was true with the Lamanites who fought against the Anti-Nephi-Lehi. What remained of them was a pile of bones as well (Alma 28:11). Just the same with the Nephite people, under the command of Mormon and Moroni. Again, a pile of bones are their legacy. Even when the best of the strong men led the people (Mormon and Moroni), bones were the remaining legacy, …because the people rejected light (the opposite of the people in the city of Enoch).
The Lord expresses the cause of the gap. He attributes the gap to: inequality of man, and the devils snares.
“13. And thus we see how great the inequality of man is because of sin and transgression, and the power of the devil, which comes by the cunning plans which he hath devised to ensnare the hearts of men.”
According to Alma, inequality is caused by sin and transgression. It is sin and transgression that progresses the plans of the devil, to completely ensnare an entire population, and to leave behind a pile of bones. Those, who’s remains are left behind in a pile of bones, have suffered, because they view people as their enemy and not as an asset, rather than seeing darkness as the enemy. They sacrifice “people” for “things,” instead of sacrificing “things” for “people.” In this environment, darkness thrives and expands, generating greater and greater gaps among men, until they attack and kill one another, like cancer. They turn on themselves, having been possessed of darkness.
Darkness: The enemy is the darkness. Darkness produces sin and transgression, which in turn promotes the ensnaring of the hearts of men, until they are deceived to view their own people as the enemy. Then, when their minds are darkened (void of light), they are willing to destroy others in degrees: stunting spiritual growth, then in social rejection, and finally death (this opposing the creation of life). All because their minds were darkened, because they had no light, because they didn’t have enough oil in their lamps. [side note: anciently, oil was synonymous to light. In the coronation of a king, anointing him was the very symbolic act of giving the king light.]
3 Nephi 13:23-24
“23. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24. No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon.”
The offering of two doctrines occurs every day, month and year, but it goes unnoticed by us. We have been disconnected from the knowledge of the heavens for so long that we cannot even see the play on light happening over and over again in cycles. On a daily basis this play on light and dark can be seen in the observation of the sun. The sun divides and dispels the dark at it’s rising. However the dark over powers the light of the sun at sunset. Every day the sun presents a sign to the world that there are only two plans: light and dark, and that light can overpower the dark, so come to the light. The day, night and day, when the sun did not go down, was the sign of Christ’s birth. It was a sign that Christ would overcome all darkness, and that He is the light of this world.
The moon also communicates the two plans of light and dark. The monthly pattern of the moon waxes and wanes, or gets brighter and more full, and then darkens until there is no moon. If one were to value the light of the moon, they would recognize the moon as a symbol of the two plans: light and dark.
The seasons of the year is another play on light. At the spring equinox, light and darkness are equal, but light is taking over causing life and new growth. At the summer solstice, light is at its peak, but darkness is making its come back to over power the light. At Fall equinox, light and dark are equal, but darkness will over power light soon after (the fall harvest was meant to endure the darkness). At the winter solstice, darkness is at its peak, but light begins to be restored. Interestingly enough, Joseph Smith was born at the time of winter solstice, when light begins to be restored.
We have huge signs, right before our eyes, but our minds have been darkened that we cannot recognize them. Those signs in the heavens have been reduced to “just another day,” or “the daily grind.” When we recognize the symbols being offered there, perhaps we’d pay closer attention to them, and be enlightened by the heavens. Perhaps our knowledge of those lights are an indicator to the heavens of how further light and knowledge is valued among us.
“50. And by this you may know they are under the bondage of sin, because they come not unto me.
51. For whoso cometh not unto me is under the bondage of sin.
52. And whoso receiveth not my voice is not acquainted with my voice, and is not of me.
53. And by this you may know the righteous from the wicked, and that the whole world groaneth under sin and darkness even now.
54. And your minds in times past have been darkened because of unbelief, and because you have treated lightly the things you have received—
55. Which vanity and unbelief have brought the whole church under condemnation.
56. And this condemnation resteth upon the children of Zion, even all.
Those who “come not unto Christ” are in bondage of sin, they are unfamiliar with His voice, and they do not receive it, …and they are therefore …not of Christ. We are also taught that this is how you discern between the righteous and the wicked. Are you in bondage of sin? Are you familiar with His voice (the words of Christ)? Do you receive His voice (the words of Christ)?
According to the scripture shared above, the whole church is guilty and condemned because we are darkened in our minds. We don’t seek to know the Book of Mormon. Our efforts are far less than the early saints, indicating our minds being darkened. To the early saints, the Book of Mormon was salvation. In our time, membership in the church is salvation, and too much knowledge of the Book of Mormon is grounds for being questioned by the bishop, as a threat and too offensive. This circumstance that we are in today is surely vanity and unbelief, as the scripture above stated. And not only is the church under condemnation, but that condemnation rests …upon all of Zion!
Light: The only solution is light. That is what the atonement is all about, light. That is what the scriptures offer, light. That is what “keys” are, light! Someone who holds keys, holds light. And if they hold light, do they hide it under a bushel, or do they set it upon a candle stick, to “give light to all in the house?” (3 Nephi 12:15).
Keys are meant to offer men light. The source of that light is Christ. The claim to hold all the keys, yet being unable to, or unwilling to, direct men to the source of that light (Christ), is putting that light under a bushel. They hide the source of light, rather than placing it on a candle stick, to offer all who want light to come unto Christ, in the flesh. If men cannot offer that light, why claim to hold all the keys? Keys have no power without light.
If the poverty gap is due to darkness, than it is light that closes the gap, to produce equality and peace among men.
“13. And thus we see how great the inequality of man is because of sin and transgression, and the power of the devil, which comes by the cunning plans which he hath devised to ensnare the hearts of men.
14. And thus we see the great call of diligence of men to labor in the vineyards of the Lord; and thus we see the great reason of sorrow, and also of rejoicing—sorrow because of death and destruction among men, and joy because of the light of Christ unto life.”
It is Christ’s light that closes the gap of poverty, that contains the power of priesthood keys, and produces wealth and joy in Zion by coming to the source, Christ.
Conclusion: If you are currently experiencing the abundance, peace, joy, and wealth described in Zion, than you are filled with light, have had the personal visitation of Christ in the flesh, and are working to put your light on a candle stick, teaching all men to do as you’ve done, rather than under a bush. But, if you belong to the same house that I belong to, you are infested with darkness and unbelief, you suffer from contentions, envyings and strifes. But, …don’t worry, ….I have a cure for that darkness. You guessed it, it’s the words of Christ!
Lets not fight. Lets talk of Christ, preach of Christ, and rejoice in Christ, …by shining light on the darkness. Hiding our traditions of unbelief and our sins/transgressions in the dark, so no one can see them, will have the same effect as darkness on mould. The mould will grow. However shining light on the darkness of traditional unbelief, sin, transgressions, etc. will dispel the darkness and kill off the mould. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, lets seek after these things. However, lets not filter it by unbelief and transgression. We must be sensitive enough to receive Christ’s voice, and to let Him in.
“20. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Our part is to hear His voice and open the door. He will then come in and sup, or nourish you. He will correct the foolish traditions of unbelief. He will make you His. The Lord’s words never cease. He is talkative. It is our ability to receive Him, to unstop our ears, to remove the scales of darkness from our eyes, that gives men ability to gain more and more light.
No matter what plan of escape we choose to rid ourselves of the darkness here on this earth, if light is the focus, then “I’m IN!” But, if we are going to gather based on the things of the world, in other words darkness, then “I’m OUT!”
Your salvation is not dependent upon which institution you belong to, or wether or not you follow the prophet. It relies only upon your ability to receive light. If you can receive light, from any source, it is because you are familiar with light. But, if you are not able to receive light, it is because you have failed to become familiar with it, you have not sought it, you do not ask for it.
2 Nephi 32:4
“4. Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark.”
