The three roles of Elias/Elijah/Messiah have greater clarification in the Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith (TPJS). Many truths have been discarded and replaced with tradition, steering good people away from the heavens, towards idol worship. The need for a temple, with the Powers of heaven in the midst of the people, cannot be confused with a pretty (and expensive) building, filled with rituals that are glossed over. We must repent and return.
Joseph Smith taught the roles of Elias/Elijah/Messiah, however, in our day none have had the power to explain it to me very clearly at all. I’ll give it my best shot, and you can respond if the spirit confirms it to you, or not.
Elias is a role of a forerunner; someone sent to prepare the way. The best example of a forerunner is John the Baptist. John preached the doctrine of repentance and baptism, …and nothing else. He did not offer more than this. When people asked if he was Messiah, he advised them that he was not, …and that one greater than he, whose shoe latchet he was not worthy to unloose, would come (referring to Christ). Preaching the doctrine of repentance and baptism is the role of Elias. Joseph Smith taught that a true Elias will teach nothing more than repentance and baptism (TPJS pg. 335). When a man was sent to the world to prepare for a greater work, with the keys of Elias, what he taught was called The Doctrine of Elias (TPJS pg. 336).
Elijah’s role was in addition to Elias, and was called The Doctrine of Election (TPJS pg.338). Without repentance and baptism (Elias), it is impossible to have your calling and election made sure (Elijah). Phillip (who later became an apostle) baptized men and women in Samaria when he was under the spirit of Elias. When Peter and John heard of those who were baptized, they went down and laid hands upon them, and they received the Holy Ghost. This shows the distinction between the two powers (TPJS pg. 336). The role of the spirit of Elijah is nothing less than providing the knowledge for man to live in the presence of God, in the flesh. When the spirit of Elijah returns, Zion can exist again, …because men can live in the presence of God.
Messiah is the doctrine of redemption and salvation. When the spirit of Elijah returns men can become saviors on Mount Zion. As such, you are sealed to the fathers “in heaven” through the Doctrine of Election (Elijah), and must now redeem & seal your children, your dead progenitors, and those who will accept the truth to you. That is how you become the link, by becoming a savior on Mount Zion. We are misled to think that once you die, you go to heaven. Most of those who’ve died are still on the earth, and cannot escape this hell. Saviors on Mount Zion provide escape by being linked to the fathers “in heaven.” Sealing them to you, seals them to the fathers in heaven, as stated in Malachi 4. However, Joseph clarified that the word “TURN” in Malachi was better translated as Bind or Seal (TPJS pg. 330).
“5. ¶Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
6. And he shall turn [bind/seal] the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
Joseph Smith was taught by Moroni a little differently:
“37. For behold, the day cometh that shall burn as an oven, and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly shall burn as stubble; for they that come [this is the city of Enoch who will return] shall burn them, saith the Lord of Hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
38. And again, he quoted the fifth verse thus: Behold, I will reveal unto you the Priesthood, by the hand of Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
39. He also quoted the next verse differently: And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers [these are the scriptural covenants made to the fathers in heaven that we must study and know, or plant in our hearts], and the hearts of the children shall “turn” [bind/seal] to their fathers. If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.”
Joseph Smith was one of those fathers, a savior on Mount Zion. He sealed both men and women to himself, and said that if they would put a cloak over his sins, he would put a cloak over their sins, and carry them as his backload into heaven.
Heavy truths, such as the roles of Elias/Elijah/Messiah have been discarded and replaced with tradition, steering good people away from the heavens, and substituted with idol worship. Men have ignorantly interpreted sealing women to Joseph as a polygamist effort, filled with sexual promiscuity. When Joseph was acting as a savior on Mount Zion, he took people on as his backload into heaven, through adoption. Wilford Woodruff admits in general conference that he didn’t know what Joseph was up to, adopting people to himself, but he felt that he needed to seal himself to his father, and his father to his father, as far back as possible, and then seal them to Joseph Smith. In our day we have simply stopped sealing people to Joseph Smith, breaking any binding/sealing/turning to the fathers. Ignorance of the words of Christ has eroded truth into binding ourselves to those who remain damned in hell! In our ignorance we have spent millions of dollars, including the widows mite, to construct and dedicate opulent architectures, to seal ourselves to the damned, and rejected sanctifying ourselves by turning our hearts to the covenants, in the words of Christ, made to the fathers who are in heaven! We have become worshippers of idols, and have made the arm of flesh into graven images.
The need for a temple, with the Powers of heaven in the midst of the people (3 Nephi 20:22), cannot be confused with a pretty (and expensive) building, filled with rituals that are glossed over. We must repent, be baptized, and return (Elias). In order for Elijah to bind/seal anything on earth to the heavens, that effort requires a temple that is tied to the heavens! That is the effort I am involved in at http://www.treeoflife221.com. The temple is “the storehouse” of God; A place where you will find treasures in the heavens where moth and rust doth not corrupt. This is the proper place for the tithes, once the poor among you have been cared for.
Conclusion: You cannot skip steps. Elias is first, as a forerunner to prepare the hearts and minds of His sheep, to hear His voice, repent, and choose the path of being filled with light, by being baptized. Although you have been baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that baptism will not qualify you to be sealed to the fathers in heaven (Elijah). The church has forfeited those keys, because they have covered their sins, gratified their pride, and vain ambition, …they have exercised control AND dominion AND compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in many degrees of unrighteousness. If you choose to maintain your standing in that baptism, that is the end of your progression, and you too will be tied to the damned in hell.
However, if you are persuaded to repent and be baptized, because through your study of the words of Christ, you have heard the voice of the Lord stating that what I have written is His doctrine, …then I invite you to be baptized AGAIN by one who has the spirit of Elias. The promise to all those who receive this baptism is that they will be prepared to receive further light and truth by one who has the spirit of Elijah; which offers to provide your calling and election to be made sure, preparatory to being sealed to the fathers, and coming into the presence of Christ in the flesh.
I pray that the Holy Ghost has “vibed” you to recognize that what I have stated above is true. If that is the case, remember faith must be exercised by action. Fear no man, or what the institution can do to you. Offer up all things, even your good name. Redemption and salvation through the atonement of Christ is far more valuable than any sacrifice you can imagine. To obtain what is promised will take nothing less then the sacrifice of all things.
I have the greatest confidence that you can do this my family. You are amazing. We can do anything. Let’s do “THIS!”
