Having An Eye Single to the Glory of God has recently taken on a whole new meaning for me, and I’d like to share it with you.
If God the Father were to unveil Himself, in all His glory, to you and I right now, you and I would burn. We are filled with impurities that would burn us off in the refiners fire of God the Father’s presence. However, we have been given a method to perform our labors and prepare to meet God (Alma 34:32). The method is in order: Word/ Servant/ Christ/ the Father. Each step requires fruits to be produced, equal to your understanding, or equal to your faith. Through this process a man can be made perfect, having been justified by the redemption of Christ. Let me take you through the process.
God unveils Himself to a small degree using His words, or in other words, using scripture. The fruit produced is oneness in heart and mind, based upon the simple principles taught within scripture. A people united by the covenant in scripture are prepared to receive further light and truth by messengers sent from His presence.
Using ordinances, God unveils Himself to a greater degree. Without the ordinances, no man can see the face of God the Father and live (D&C 84:22). A messenger (Servant), who has been in the presence of God the Father, adds greater “light and knowledge” to further prepare us for an even greater unveiling, through the message He delivers. The servant himself holds little value. It’s the message that the servant delivers that holds all the value, …and it unveils God to a greater degree, preventing you from frying in God’s greater glory. The fruits of receiving further “light and knowledge” is the fruit described in Alma 32:42, it is the presence of Christ in the flesh.
The presence of Christ in the flesh is not the end of your progression. Although it unveils God the Father to an even greater degree than before, it is still not God the Father fully unveiled. What I’m saying is that it is a very significant step in the process, as Christ IS THE WAY. However, there’s more needed so that you don’t burn in God the Father’s presence. Christ prepares you, until you are ready to be presented to the Father, having been redeemed from the fall. The fruits of this final step is being presented to the presence of God the Father.
Sticking to the subject of this blog, having An Eye Single to the Glory of God, has less to do with self-discipline, and more to do with a gradual preparation to enter into the presence of God the Father. In our impure state we unite on God’s word. As we progress further, we come to God’s message. As we become purer, or in other words sanctified, we enter into the presence of God’s Son. And finally we return to God the Father. God’s word leads to God’s message, which leads to God’s Son, and finally into God’s presence. That is An Eye Single to the Glory of God.
Now consider this scripture:
5. And faith, hope, charity and love, with An Eye Single to the Glory of God, qualify him for the work.
Conclusion: Having An Eye Single to the Glory of God recognizes that God the Father is the objective in every step of the progression. God the Father has laid out a plan for your return: Word/ Servant/ Christ/ Presence. Your failure to take the first step, by feasting upon the scriptures, is directly related to your desire to enter into His presence, and translates into how you love God.
29 Yea, we see that whosoever will may lay hold upon the word of God, which is quick and powerful, which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil, and lead the man of Christ in a strait and narrow course across that everlasting gulf of misery which is prepared to engulf the wicked—
30 And land their souls, yea, their immortal souls, at the right hand of God in the kingdom of heaven, to sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and with Jacob, and with all our holy fathers, to go no more out.
Having An Eye Single to the Glory of God begins with the covenant of the scriptures being offered. Partake of that covenant. Let’s live by it, and let no man cast doubts on God’s promise to prepare the way for you to be redeemed from the fall. God is bound by what He says, when you do what He instructs. Otherwise, you have no promise (D&C 82:10). Lets prove God now by being one, based upon the scriptures.
